Derby has a beautiful head and topline, and his movement is remarkable, demonstrating exceptional balance and structure. In addition to his conformation, he is an excellent retriever, retrieving a live bird to hand from both brush and water in his first training session. We expect Derby to continue to excel in conformation as well as in obedience and field. This is definitely a boy with attitude who can do it all!
On May 17, 2008, Derby returned to the show circuit after spending a year maturing, and he did it in style, taking WD/BOW/BOS, owner handled, under judge Roger Hartinger in Flint, Michigan. At his first shows in the Open Dog class in the US, he took RWD and then WD/BOW, owner handled, under judge Michelle Billings. The first time he was shown in the U.S., he took the 12-18 month dog class under breeder/judge Mrs. Christine E. Pollender-Calcinari.
Derby completed his Canadian Championship in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on May 19, 2007 going WD/BOW/BOS and on May 21, 2007 took BOB during his first weekend as a Special. Derby returned to Canada shortly after turning two years old and took WD/BOW for another 5 points. At the age of 15 months, at the Central Regional GRCA Specialty, Derby won his class in Sweeps under California breeder Jennifer Masterson and placed first in the 12-18 month dog class under Canadian judge Virginia Lyne. In his first weekend of showing in Canada, he took RWD and then WD/BOW for 4 points from the 12-18 month class.
